How these best budget web hosts were chosen:

It is impossible for any company to test and rate the thousands of web hosting providers that operate around the world. Any scoring system will be imperfect in some ways but I have used a simple scoring system that attempts to discover the best of the best. Any of these cheap web hosting services here should provide you with a very good value budget hosting service and some provide higher levels of hosting if required. They are listed in alphabetical order.

My research sources have included:

customer reviews/ comments/ feedback on hosting forums
ratings on genuine web hosting directories
recommendations from internet marketers that make their living from their web sites
customer comments/ feedback on consumer sites
personal experiences of various web hosting companies

The useful Alexa traffic rankings lists web sites in order of the number of people visiting the sites (traffic). At the time of writing, the top 5 sites (busiest) are:

1. www.yahoo.com

2. www.google.com

3. www.youtube.com

4. www.msn.com

5. www.live.com

In my experience, any sites that have rankings of 500,000 or larger, probably have low or negligible traffic.

The traffic rating is useful to see how busy a web hosting company is and this can play a small part in your selection process. A one man web hosting setup only having a handful of customers will have a ranking indicating very low traffic. I personally would want to choose a hosting company that has lots of customers and is hopefully financially stable and would therefore want to see a traffic ranking of between 1 and 100,000
